Hummingbird

More floating people from me, but this is not part of the Float-series. I wanted to draw something bird-related this time, and she ended up being “the hummingbird lady”. There’s something graceful in hummingbirds although they’re so small and cute, and their colors are so vibrant. I wanted to bring the same colors to this painting, but also to keep it little bit melancholy. That’s why the background is pretty colorless.

I really loved to design her dress, and it’s the main focus in this painting. Especially the hem because it’s so extravagantly long. Also, I wanted the hem with its additions to resemble bird wings. I had no clear vision of how her face, make up and hair would look like when finished but after I painted her hair black and added the pink make up across her eyes, I realized she looked like a geisha. And so I decided to keep that look. Sketched with a mechanical pencil, painted in Ps.

Minotaur Prince

I was thinking of ICO when I painted this one. I love that game, and I love to paint horns (and elf ears). First the boy had elf ears, but I changed them to little horns. He’s run away from home, and there are guardians looking for him. Sketched with a mechanical pencil, painted in Ps.

I’ve decided to start to practice painting backgrounds more. I’ve been character oriented always, and I love to draw character designs, but I think it’s also important to learn to paint good environments - and showy ones, too. In this painting, I’m pretty content with the background although it’s very simple. Especially with the minotaur guardians.

Devil Princess

I wanted to paint this one using primarily only three colors: black, red and white. It started with her lips, and then I narrowed the whole color palette. And I think I pretty much got what I wanted. I also wanted to paint something royal, and I love to draw huge elf ears. They’re fascinating.

The girl had first one red and one blue eye, but then I decided to change them into black because I’ve never painted black eyes. They made her look a lot more cuter, I think. And winter is on its way, that’s why the snow. Painted in Ps, sketched with a mechanical pencil.

Diamond WIP

I have finally time for some character concept art! I’ve really missed it, although drawing “Here I Am” was so much fun too. But it was more like real work, and I’ve missed digital coloring.

This is a WIP of my new original character called Diamond. I decided to use a female main character in my next story, because “Here I Am” had Jonathan as the main character. And Diamond is way different from Jonathan, but so is the story too. It has scifi and fantasy-elements, and it’s not a melancholic drama like “Here I Am” was.

(And I love to use my own font in everything I draw nowadays. Because it’s 100% sure no one else has a font like that!)

Anyway…

(And little trivia: her name comes from Billy Talent’s song “Diamond on a Landmine”. I absolutely love that song.)

Raven WIP

Another WIP-post…

I’m working on a piece called “Raven”, and I’m trying to polish my coloring style. I made the sketch pretty quickly, took me only about half an hour, and the coloring process has been pretty quick too. Surprisingly, because usually I spend hours digitally coloring my drawings. And I think I could easilly reduce that time because I tend to concentrate too much on some details and parts and end up being unsatisfied with them in the end.

This is for my own story I’ve been working on lately, and my own character. He’s called Arnaud but also known as Raven. Yeah, there’s a raven sitting on his back. Looks like one heavy bird…
