Azazel

I went to see X-Men: First Class with my friend on Sunday, and I absolutely loved that movie! It reminded me of the good ol’ X-Men days (talking about the previous trilogy), and the actors were great. I didn’t expect much from the story, but it worked well too.

And of course my favorite was Azazel. What’s there not to love about him? He’s red, stylish with a great hair style and he has a tail! I have a soft spot for tails. I just wish he would have gotten more screen time, but maybe in the next two movies…?

Anyway, Azazel-fan art and this is based on the movie version of him. Sketched with a mechanical pencil, colored in Ps.

I added the red socks for fun! So cute. ♥

Femme Fatale

Although the title is kinda fateful, I actually got the idea for this illustration when my own bangs started to be way too long and annoying to my eyes. I love bangs, but I hate it how fast they grow. Still, I think long bangs would look really great, but yeah… It’s not the most practical hairstyle.

I wanted to bring some kind of a “retro” feeling to the illustration with the colors. That’s why I used so much red in it and different kind of strong color effects. The divided background brings a nice edge to the illustration. Also, Liquify is my new favorite tool in Photoshop. The left part of the hair was edited with it.

Asian Dreams

This has nothing to do with the situation in Japan, so this is not a statement. Of course I feel sorry for the people and the situation is awful, but I drew this a couple of weeks ago already. It’s just a dress-design which happened to be inspired by the japanese culture.

I wanted to use lots of red because red is delicious. It’s a very strong color, and I don’t use it that often. I do wear a lot of red, though… I’m very satisfied with the dress, and I wish I knew how to sew so that I could make one but that’ll have to wait. Maybe in a couple of years? The bag is matched with the dress, and not with the shoes, because her hair already matches with the shoes. And I didn’t want to use too much black, because the white and the red were the main colors in this one.

Also, I like her red shadow a lot although it doesn’t follow the rules of light and shadow. It’s more like an artistic add-on to the illustration.

The Big Red

“The Big Red” was quickly done, in a couple of hours. I bought a Moleskine sketch book and started to sketch something, and I ended up designing a layout-image for my art site. And that’s how “The Big Red” was born. I also wanted to paint something “outside” of my own style, because it’s important to try styles and ideas that don’t feel comfortable at first. You might learn to love them and make your style more interesting and unique that way. I think this painting looks a bit different from my other ones, so it wasn’t a waste of time…

I also spent pretty much time on designing the colors, although I usually just go with what feels good. Partly because this painting has to fit the rest of the site’s layout. “The Big Red” is similar to Cherry, one of my previous illustrations.

Cherry

This is a fashion portrait of a woman called Cherry. This was pretty much inspired by Arturo Elena’s work (he’s so talented!). I came up with the name because of her lipstick. It’s pretty red, yes. I wanted to use strong red in this one, and first I was going to use it only on her lips. But then I made her earrings look like cherries, and red dress works always, I think. She had a cigarette in hand first, but I don’t want to draw cigarettes into every fashion portrait I make, so I left it out. It’s not a statement, I just don’t want to be repetitive. I think the portrait is better like this, with not so many details. The focus should be mainly on her facial features.

Her hair is way different from my usual designs. It was strawberry blond first, but strong black works better. I got to add lovely blue shades to the black so that’s why I changed her hair to be dark. And red and black make a good couple.

Devil Princess

I wanted to paint this one using primarily only three colors: black, red and white. It started with her lips, and then I narrowed the whole color palette. And I think I pretty much got what I wanted. I also wanted to paint something royal, and I love to draw huge elf ears. They’re fascinating.

The girl had first one red and one blue eye, but then I decided to change them into black because I’ve never painted black eyes. They made her look a lot more cuter, I think. And winter is on its way, that’s why the snow. Painted in Ps, sketched with a mechanical pencil.
